Can't Figure This One Out

I'm still thinking about this tooth thing, since as I mentioned in the last post, Graham lost a tooth. I wonder why with my children, I've only seen 8 at the most of the teeth that they each lost. I know we have something like 28 teeth in our mouth (I should know that number) so where do the teeth go? Do they swallow them?

My teenager says that you don't loose all of your teeth, only some are replaced by adult teeth, but my husband says that all of them fall out.

I'd love to know what other moms know that I don't.

Your son is right. Not all teeth are lost and replaced.

Why do you ask us when you are a few keystrokes away from all of the information in the world?

Big white Hat, why would I search, when I know that you'll give me the answers?

I know nothing about teeth. I also thought we lost all of them. Maybe there *is* a tooth fairy who occasionally beats us to the punch! lol!

I'm weirded out. I thought we lost them all. I'm going to have to refer this question to my ultimate knowledge base: some more bloggy friends, not that silly Internet!

I thought we lost them all too. And that was sort of concerning me . . . because the Tooth Fairy at our house gives $2.00 per tooth. I'm thinking, at $2.00 per tooth x 20 teeth, that's $40.00 per mouth, x 2 boys that know about the Tooth Fairy. I know you can all do the math. But seriously, $80 for 2 mouths of teeth. Sheesh! FYI . . . I didn't start the $2.00 amount. My mom did. Mitchell lost his first tooth at grandma's house. So, her Tooth Fairy gave him $2.00 and now I've got to follow. It's okay. He's worth it. But I don't always have a toonie on hand, and he'll just all of a sudden lose a tooth!
Oh, the joys of motherhood!
Thanks for the cute story.

Wow....I never really thought about it....I was just grateful that I never had to pull them...with Cassandra we have had to pull(with the help of our dentist) almost all of her baby teeth because they didn't want to come out....I think that is way worse than swallowing a few little baby teeth....
Interesting question though...now I will have to figure out how many teeth I put money under my son's pillow for....

Here's what I know that you don't: You think WAY more about teeth than I do! Now I feel like a big dweeb, or possibly a bad mama, for never wondering about this.

And hey, I'm glad you ask questions like this on your blog. Isn't it much more fun to have your friends send you answers, than to deal with impersonal Google?

I think it depends on the mouth. I'm pretty sure all of my teeth were replaced by adult ones, but my sister, who is grown, still has several of her baby teeth. A very good reason to take care of them ALL!

I think your hubby could be right
I googled " primary teeth permanent teeth"
http://www.ada.org/public/topics/tooth_eruption.asp
shows the growth of both types of teeth. There are several websites.
You could ring a dentist and ask
