Works for Me!
This is my first week joining what's known as "Works for me Wednesday." I came accross a cleaning tip that was so good I figured that it would be a good post for my first crack at this meme that Shannon over at Rocks in My Dryers hosts weekly. It happened by accident. After an attempt by my five-year-old son to brush his teeth solo, the bathroom looked like a flock of birds on the Colgate diet flew through. There were droplets of toothpaste everywhere, and I was armed for the battle with scrub brush in hand.
My toilet was fairly clean, in fact my Dad had taken an sos pad to it only two weeks before. It needed the usual weekly cleaning, so while toothpaste was on my toilet brush, I figured I'd give that a whirl.
I was surprised to see a difference in a toilet I thought was already white. The toothpaste caused me to see it wasn't, I had to call an audience into the room. "Look at that I exclaimed! See the difference?" :)
My newest trick to cleaning the toilet is getting a small cup and bailing the water out, so I did this and contued to clean with the toothpaste. Only a little was needed, but wow did it make the porcelain throne look brand new.
I got a little toothpaste crazy that day since there was much to spare on the counter the floor and the bathtub, and I noticed that it also made the silver taps sparkle.
If you're really lonely, you'll like this one because after you scrub the sink with this stuff it's so clean it talks--just ask my audience. :)
So that's what works for me. Why don't you head over to Shannon's and tell us what works for you!

It sounds wonderful as a cleaner and your son's teeth must really sparkle!
Thanks for a great tip!
I've gotta try this. I think toothpaste is mildly abrasive, so that's why it cleans so nicely. Oh...you don't have to 'bail out' the toilet, LOL! Fill a pitcher with water and dump it all at once into the bowl. It will create a change in pressure that empties the bowl. When you're done, just flush and the water will rise to its normal level.
That's great that your bathroom looks shinny. Another tip, more for your husbands or whoever cleans your car. Using toothpaste as a polish on the headlights will make the headlights shine brighter and look like new.
I don't bail either, I take the toilet brush and I push it down into the water hard a few times, and the water pushes around the bend in much the same way I presume that the pitcher of water works.
Darlene,
I discovered how well toothpaste cleans quite a few years ago. Same type of senario and an old toothbrush also works wonders for some of those really hard to clean places.
I still use a toothbrush and toothpaste to clean my rings especially since they don't/can't come off my hand.

Okay, I'm going to try this!
Thanks for sharing this great tip. :)
Our bathroom looks spray painted with toothpaste six kids brush their teeth--I am going to try this, Darlene! Good stuff!
All's His grace,
Ann
Thanks for popping over to my blog! BTW, to be honest--I double-checked the 'dump a pitcher of water' trick before I posted, just to make sure. Yep, it works, LOL! It almost completely empties out the toilet, with just about a cup of water in the bottom--at least, in my bowl.
I like this!! And I bet it smelled "minty fresh too"
Now I'm gonna get on over to Rocks In My Dryer and see if she has any advice for globs of Desitan! :)
Bless you Darlene..
Wow! What a great tip. I got a tube of toothpaste in my stocking at Christmas that 'just isn't my brand' (sorry mom) so I might use this one to give that a try. Though hubby is usually the toilet cleaner in our house (bless him - I love him dearly) I will certainly give it a whirl on the sink & taps!!
Hey, GREAT idea! Also...you can push the water down with a rag and your hand...just push a little down at a time and it will not flush itself unless you flush it.
