Love is in the Air

Last valentines day, my daughter came home with a card in her back-pack. An inscription scribbled by the hand of a young boy read, "Roses are red, violets are blue, you are beautiful, I know it's true..."

Then this morning while my daughter and I stood on the front steps of the shool, we were approached by another boy. He lowered his head, kicked the snow a few times, then took a deep breath before finally releasing his words, "Mrs. Schacht, the school is having it's pre-teen dance tomorrow, and I wanted to ask if Maddy could go with me."

After swallowing a giggle or two I looked over at my nine-year-old daughter, hoping to capture the look on her face. "That's really nice of him, isn't it Maddy?" I asked while she grinned--seemingly as amused as I was. "Sorry, guy but we're going be busy tomorrow, so Maddy isn't able to go."

He let out a dissapointed sigh, before walking back to his friend on the snow bank. There the two boys devised plans to throw snowballs at her instead.

About five minutes later, the same boy returned with yet one other question, "I have one more question for you," he said, "If you weren't busy tomorrow, would the answer have been yes?"

Maddy smiled and nodded her head.

"Yeah!" he shouted raising one arm in the air. "She would have said yes!"

This leaves me and her father with little to no other choice--we're shaving her bald, feeding her chocolate, and getting her braces--today.

LOL! That's an idea! It isn't easy watching our daughters grow up, is it?! Mine is 12 and has talked about her "boyfriends" since she was 5. I've recently discovered your blog and have been enjoying your writing! :)

Great post! Great idea! If only we could keep them in our home forever...but they remain in our hearts and we in theirs.....long after they, yes, I'll say it, accept their own dates!

Oh, what an idea. It comes way to soon. May we give our daughters good advice when it comes to boy's, and may God direct their hearts and all MOM'S.

Oh my goodness! That just made me giggle! But of course, my daughter is only 5. She had a boy in her class pay her one dollar to chase him at recess. She is smart. She took the dollar, but didn't chase the boy!!

I have all this to look forward too!

Thanks for sharing!

Darlene, I have to agree with you and Michael - excellent plan for your little girl. I don't think that you can keep her locked up - hehe...

Blessings to you and yours...

Tell her she can begin dating when she's 35. You can always adjust the date downward but that gives you some wiggle room.

PS: I wish I'd told my three daughters that!

Sure, my oldest is cute. But, have you seen my youngest? You think you have it rough? I'm going to GPS her and show up everywhere she goes.

BTW. This blog would still look better with one little addition.

This, I think, is the fear of all parents who have daughters. I know it's Justin's reason for only wanting boys. I hope God surprises him, soon.

Wow she is starting early.....just wait until they are 13 and the same thing happens....by then you will just want to lock them in their rooms until they are 21 to protect them from all the scary boys in the world.
What a cute story.....
Thanks for sharing

Oh goodness, my oldest will be 10 in two weeks. I thought I was going to be able to wait longer before shaving her head and fattening her up. You've ruined all my treasured illusions!
